Industrial Hygiene:  Hazard Recognition, Evaluation & Control

NORTECH’s team of certified industrial hygienists can help clients recognize workplace health and safety hazards, characterize the hazards through sampling, monitoring, inspection services. Our CIH's are trained to propose options for applying administrative or engineering controls to mitigate the hazards.

The specific techniques or methods for evaluating hazards depend on your operations, the hazards involved, and the potential for employee exposure to such hazards. NORTECH can provide this service as a stand-alone task for enhancing your existing safety program or as part of developing a comprehensive safety program.

The list below is representative of activities involved with hazard recognition, evaluation, and control:

Process Hazards Analysis to identify the hazards in the area

 Exposure assessment of chemical/contaminant concentrations

Evaluation of physical hazards such as noise levels, ionizing
and non-ionizing radiation, and other safety hazards (fall
   protection, lock-out/tag-out, electrical, etc)

Identification of approaches to mitigate hazards including
administrative controls (such as substitution with a less-toxic    compound or reduction of worker exposure duration) and/or    engineering controls (such as ventilation or modification of
   the process)
