Immaculate Heart of Mary Church

Fuel Spill Cleanup in Marshall, Alaska.

NORTECH completed site characterization and cleanup operations for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Marshall following two separate fuel spills in 2020 and 2022. Our team provided emergency response services, including containment of contaminated snow and recovery of approximately 1,700 gallons of fuel-impacted water. Using a SpillShield sorbent system and SmartAsh burner, NORTECH ensured complete treatment on site, leaving no residual waste for the local landfill and equipping the community with tools for future use.

Beyond initial response, NORTECH oversaw excavation of diesel-contaminated soil from three areas around the church. Nearly 200 supersacks of impacted soil were transported by barge and truck to the Moose Creek Alaska Thermal Treatment Facility for final disposal.

This project demonstrates NORTECH’s ability to mobilize quickly in remote communities, apply innovative cleanup solutions, and reduce long-term environmental risks while supporting local capacity building.
