Former Recycling and Salvage Yard

NORTECH supported the Fairbanks North Star Borough with the assessment and cleanup of a former recycling and salvage yard through EPA Brownfield funding. Beginning in 2005, our team conducted extensive site investigations, including ground-penetrating radar surveys and more than 60 soil borings, to evaluate subsurface conditions and determine remedial requirements for future reuse.

Working in close coordination with EPA and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, NORTECH managed ongoing assessment activities, oversaw the removal of hazardous materials and debris, and directed targeted dioxin cleanup. By 2009, the site achieved regulatory “Cleanup Complete” status, clearing the way for safe commercial redevelopment.

Through comprehensive investigation and effective project management, NORTECH transformed a long-standing environmental liability into a property ready for productive reuse, meeting community goals while protecting human health and the environment.
