Old Tok School
Hazardous Building Materials Survey & Deconstruction Planning in Tok, Alaska.
NORTECH partnered with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to investigate hazardous materials at the former Tok Old School building and associated sheds under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act.
Our team conducted a comprehensive assessment to identify asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, PCB-contaminated coatings, and potential underground storage tank hazards. In addition to evaluating building materials, NORTECH inspected buried tanks for fluid levels and prepared cost estimates to guide safe deconstruction and disposal planning.
Recommendations included further investigation of wastewater discharge areas and potential impacts from historical automotive and welding activities. By combining detailed hazardous materials surveys with forward-looking recommendations, NORTECH helped create a clear path for managing environmental risks and planning safe redevelopment in this rural community.
