River Walk Dump Site
Site Assessment and Management Strategy in Delta Junction, Alaska.
NORTECH partnered with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and multiple stakeholders to address an historic dumpsite that posed physical and environmental risks along the planned River Walk Park Trail in Delta Junction. The project required balancing public safety, cost considerations, and the community’s vision for expanded recreational access.
Our team delineated the extent of debris, mapped surface hazards, and worked with state and local agencies to develop a practical management strategy. Rather than pursuing immediate, cost-prohibitive removal, NORTECH implemented interim measures including fencing, signage, and engineered controls to secure the site and reduce risk to the public.
This collaborative approach allowed the trail system to be safely expanded while minimizing exposure to hazards, providing the community with greater access to outdoor resources and a long-term plan for responsible site management.
